About our Allotment Association
The Ashbourne Road District Allotments Association Ltd was formally established in June 1917.
We can be located on Mackworth Road in Derby and the site covers just over nine acres and currently has 130 allotment plots.
Our aim is to maintain and develop the Allotments Association through supporting Plot Holders, Associate Members and their families to allow them to participate in allotmenteering and to provide an effective, productive and enjoyable community resource.
New members are always welcomed. Vacant plots become available fairly frequently throughout the year and there is invariably a waiting list of prospective plot holders ready to take them on. See the Allotments Layout.
If you would like to put your name down for a plot, please contact the Secretary by secretary [at] arra.org.uk (subject: Allotment%C2%A0Enquiry) (email) or by phone on 01332 485 018.
The soil on site is productive and reasonably fertile but this can vary between allotments and how the allotments has been used in recent times. The Allotments support a huge range of produce.
All kinds of vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and bushes can be found growing across the site.
Allotments are a great form of relaxation and exercise but can be challenging at times. Our other plot holders are a great group of people who are only too willing to help each other.
Ownership & Management
The site is owned by Derby City Council and Leased to the Ashbourne Road District Allotments Association Ltd, ARDAA, and is run by a Management Committee who is elected at the Annual General Meeting.
All plot holders pay an annual rent for their plots. Because our site has been in existence for around 100 years the size of the plots can differ so the rent for each plot is based on its actual size.
The ARDAA is registered with, and overseen by, the Financial Conduct Authority as a not for profit organisation under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act.
